"The intriguing element about channeling Dick Whittington’s cat is that there are conflicting versions of the story: am I male or female? Myth or truth? Did I really make my master’s fortune?”

Helen Lederer

Dick Whittington may feature in pantomimes, but he was a real man.

Richard Whittington (1354–1423) was a poor boy who became a wealthy merchant and three times Lord Mayor of London. Allegedly, he made his fortune thanks to the extraordinary ratting abilities of his cat.
